Skyline drive in Texas City has closed for repairs as part of a $5.6 million. U.S. Corps. of Engineers Hurricane Flood Protection Project, according to the corps. The project is expected to shut down Skyline through the end of March. The repairs are critical to preserving the Texas City’s vital levee system.

This new brewery/tap room has opened at 221 6th Street N in Texas City serving craft beer and wine. Owners are Brett Bray and Theresa Hutchings. They are open Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m. — 10:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from Noon — 10:00 p.m.
Franchise owners Dave and Lesa Covert have planned a grand opening of the 2, 165-square-foot eatery restaurant in the La Marque Crossing shopping center at the corner of Interstate 45 and FM 1764 near Panda Express.
ICCI recently acquired 714 Highway 3 in La Marque, moved their headquarters to town and hit the ground running with a flurry of property improvements including signage, fencing, landscaping and interior build-out. They have 16 employees and are rapidly growing.
The parent company of Texas First Bank has agreed to merge with the parent company of Preferred Bank, a move that would result in a company with $1.4 billion in assets. Texas Independent Bancshares and Preferred Bancshares jointly announces the merger – Texas First Bank’s biggest yet – in a move that will strengthen Texas First Bank’s presence along the Texas Gulf Coast. Once complete, Texas City-based Texas First Bank will have 27 banking centers in seven Houston-area counties, including Galveston, Harris, Jefferson, Brazoria, Liberty, Chambers and now Montgomery counties and about 300 employees. Preferred Bank will take on the Texas First Bank name.
